Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to browse the BC Petrie Photography galleries, and your interest to learn a little about the person behind the camera.
I am a Freelance Photographer in Southern Maryland, whose passion for photography goes back over ten years. That passion became increasingly serious in 2007 with the purchase of my first DSLR camera, a Nikon D80. This purchase sparked my desire to learn more about the different concepts, techniques, and equipment, along with finding my own style along the way. As you can see by looking through my galleries, I tend to shoot a variety of subjects and really enjoy the diversity.Typically quick witted and full of humor, I can and will be professional when necessary. In addition to photography, I love animals, automobiles, history, nature, music, technology, ever evolving knowledge, and most of all, my family and friends.
I have been involved with automobiles for as long as I can recall, from playing with what had to be a million Hot Wheels cars as a child, to repairing, customizing, and racing real cars as a teen and now as an adult.
My love for history is varied, but regardless of the subject, I always enjoy finding out more about its history. There is something about knowing how life used to be in a particular location, to knowing why and how a certain product came to be what it is today, or anywhere in between.
Nature is something everyone should enjoy, yet the beauty is often bypassed in our busy and frequently hurried lives. Photography has provided me an outlet to slow down, enjoy the world around me, and see things I could have only imagined all while capturing the moment, frozen in time.
Musically speaking, I can often be found supporting local artists and friends in a number of ways; promoting shows, assisting bands with booking shows, or shooting photos at any numberof venues. Music is a huge aspect of my life, so much in fact that I would much rather listen to music and read, than veg out in front of the television on any given day.
Enjoyment of my love for technology can be found daily as a Microsoft and CompTIA Security certified IT professional working with a crew of Caribbean Pirates in Washington, DC, as well as tinkering with various electronic gadgets at home.
Knowledge is something I simply can never have enough of and you can often find me doing research on just about anything that intrigues me or happens to come up during a conversation. I have entirely too many books, magazines, and internet favorites, yet the collection seems to grow on a daily basis.
My loving wife and beautiful daughter, along with inlaws, outlaws, and other loving family members have been extremely supportive of my varied interests but especially so of photography. They may never know the depth of my gratitude, or forgive me for the relentless efforts to take pictures of them, but somehow I'm sure they will love and encourage me just the same.
At the moment, my ever expanding gear consists of Nikon camera bodies, lenses, and shoe mount flash guns. In addition I also use Paul C. Buff's White Lightning line of monolight strobes, softboxes, and umbrellas, a Lastolite strobist set-up, along with various tripods, light stands, reflectors, and filters.
I hope you can see that while I have varied interests, they all seemingly come together in the love of photography. The enjoyment of doing what I love, and creatively capturing the passion of life along with the memories for others to enjoy are what I thrive upon.
Regards, Brian C. PetrieLet's hope it gets good ones soon!
